NEWMARK GENTLEMAN'S WRIST WATCH - BRITISH MADEOffered for sale Newmark, British made, shock-protected and water-resistant mechanical Wrist Watch from the 1950s or very early 1960s; These watches were made at Horsham in Sussex - watch production ceased in the early 1970s and the company subsequently ceased trading. The watch is complete and in working order but it is in unrestored, as found condition. Although, we can see no apparent problems other than that it is fully wound, it will only run for a few seconds before stopping so it would most likely benefit from a clean and service. The watch appears to be in exceptionally good condition cosmetically and has a nice chunky appearance - the case is made in a style similar to the Dennison 'Aquatite' with a screwed stainless steel back. Although the watch is not running, the winding and setting mechanism appears to be smooth in action and we believe it would make a nice addition to any collection of classic British watches. Newmark KF 10.5"' pin pallet movement, with six jewels and centre seconds. Chromed brass case, 33.8 mm dia., with stainless steel screw back and 18mm lugs. Silvered face with satin centre section and gilt applied Roman numerals and hands, red centre seconds hand.
Mechanical watches make the ideal gift - classic appearance and no battery to fade or fail. They do, however, require attention from time to time by a competent watchmaker and although usually good timekeepers, a mechanical watch needs to be wound regularly and carefully. Timekeeping is unlikely to match the performance of modern quartz movements but, if properly looked after and regularly serviced, a mechanical watch will still be keeping good time long after its modern counterpart has ceased to function.
