On the evening of 27th May 2009, we tied-up on the visitor moorings just
below Birstall Lock on the River Soar. This is
an excellent spot with three nice pubs, a supermarket and many other excellent
shops all close by. For all that, the area is
pleasantly quiet so we stopped for another day and met up with old friends
who live nearby. In the evening, we joined a
practice session with the bells of St James the Great, Birstall Parish Church,
just round the corner from our mooring.
On Friday, 29th May, we travelled to Loughborough and tied up by Little Moor
Lane Bridge for our planned visit to the
Great Central Railway. The journey
from Birstall was completed in a little over four hours.
